More Week One Fun

Here are a bunch of photos from the rest of Ashlynn's first week of life.

Zero Months Old

Crystal got us these adorable stickers to mark each month of Ashlynn's first year. I looked at this as an excuse for a little photo shoot. I imagine she won't be so scrunched up in future months :). She is just the cutest and most expressive little thing, even in her sleep! We love pink in our house in case you can't tell!

First Trip to the Doctor

Ashlynn's first trip to the doctor was great. They were impressed we were on time. I didn't tell them Michael was stressed we were going to be late, so I went running out the door :). The doctor said she was just perfect. We did learn that we need to bring a blanket with us. The nurse had to bring us some pillowcases to try to keep her warm! She was almost back up to her birth weight, so that was great. Since she was going to come off formula that weekend, they would pay close attention to her weight at her next appointment on Monday.

First Bath

Michael and I were very nervous for Ashlynn's first bath. It turned out we didn't need to worry, it was actually not that bad and she LOVED having her hair washed...just like mommy, although we aren't as good at it as a hairdresser :)

We Survived...Barely

The first night was more than just a little bit of a challenge. It began when Ashlynn didn't have a wet diaper after leaving the hospital. She was on formula at this time, so we knew she was getting enough to eat/drink. I called the after hours nurse at the pediatrician's office. The nurse was great, she said that if Ashlynn didn't have a wet diaper by 11 pm (it was 10 pm) we needed to take her to the emergency room. At 11 pm the nurse called me back, she still hadn't peed. I asked for the nurse to please call the on-call doctor to see if we really needed to take her to the ER. It was the same doctor who had seen her that morning. She said that we needed to feed Ashlynn 2 ounces of formula every three hours. If she didn't have a wet diaper by morning, we needed to take her in. Thankfully Ashlynn had a wet diaper at 11:45 pm. We were so glad we pushed back and didn't head to the ER. Little did we know our fun was just beginning...
At about midnight, our sleeping little angel turned into a gremlin...squeaking, fussing and crying. My first instinct was to laugh because she had been completely silent ALL day and suddenly could make noise. She was awake pretty much all night and we tried every bed-like device we had:

The Nap Nanny
The Moses Basket
The Bassinet
No photos, but we also tried Mommy as a bed option. :)
Eventually she slept for longer than 30 minutes. Here is the aftermath of the night in our bedroom:

The next morning, our peaceful, sleeping baby was back:

Daddy is on Diaper Duty!

Michael had only changed one diaper at the hospital with the nurse, so Terri thought it was time to add to his diaper duty tally. They headed upstairs to Ashlynn's room to change her diaper. I had no idea they were up there, but I'm glad Tim documented this with so many photos.

Coming Home

We headed home from the hospital Wednesday afternoon, January 4. It will surprise everyone that I didn't buy a fancy dress for Ashlynn to wear home from the hospital. I just really loved this little cupcake set that Emily got for her.
We all survived our first car ride! Mommy was a little bit nervous, but Daddy did a great job. :)
Sheri decorated our yard with balloons and this stork that the girls from my work gave me at my shower.

The Winner of our Guessing Game!

At the very beginning of our pregnancy, we put up a guessing game to guess the baby's gender, birthday, weight and length. Sheri was definitely the closest!

She guessed:
girl
January 2 at 8:12 am
7 pounds 11 ounces
20 inches

She was only off by about four hours, four ounces and one inch!

Unfortunately the only prize is the love of our baby girl! :)

Congrats Sheri!!!

Our New Family

We are so excited to be a family of three!
